Welcome Cassidy!

So, here is Cassidy, born around Christmas 2001 -- a date frought with portent -- at points unknown. A female Australian Shepard mix -- probably Lab -- her history before late April 2002 a blank chapter, she gave us that "look" at the Helen Woodward Animal Center with one blue eye and one brown that said: "take me home, please." And, so we did, tagging her Cassidy, as in: Butch CASSIDY and the SUNDANCE Kid, get it? Yeah, OK, nevermind, she comes when called. Of course, she also wants to eat Sundance, an unfortunate instinctual hazard requiring a lot more repressive training or, more likely, parrot biting.

Like Folly, she's a smarty having already learned a stock bag of tricks including roll over, sit and lie down. A formal six-week training course begins June 8, which should help increase the discipline quotient. She has a happy and accepting temperament and is calm around people, kids and other dogs and, like all puppies her age, she loves to play, tear around the house and jump on the bed whenever the urge strikes. She recently survived a birthday party with a house full of adults and young rambunctious kids, so she should be fine when John, Patricia, Nathan and Dedra come visiting at the end of the month.

Nathan Comes Calling,
mom, dad and Dedra with Bailey, too!

On the occasion of Gran'pa Dennis's annual Sun Party, the tribe from Oakland made the flight to San Diego for the celebrations with a night and a day on beautiful Barona Mesa. My first visit to the airport in about a year for the pick-up, and it took a bit to figure out how to get to the terminal from the parking lot. When I finally got there I could have had nefarious intentions for all the good the security did. I guess San Diegans are just genetically incurably laid back, a hazard of living here too long.

Everybody appeared fit and happy, even Nathan seemed unfazed by his first airplane ride. Dedra is very much the mommy-to-be; it's a girl and she will be dubbed Bailey Jeslyn Brothers when she makes her appearance in October if all goes as planned.

A late next morning and relaxing day with lots of time for baby ogling and holding for Gran'pa, Nana Paula, and Great Gran'ma and Karen who motored up from the city for a Nathan fix. A patio feast was prepared with Gran'pa Dave firing up the new gas grill while Dedra, Patricia and Nana Paula whipped up some corn-on-the-cob, salad, fruit and wine coolers. John's friend Tim, his wife Gilda and their son Mark arrived in time for a nibble and some after dark entertainment in the "theater."
